The Notification Bell

The notification bell (🔔) in the top navigation bar is your central hub for everything happening on your MessageFuture account. It surfaces updates for messages you’ve sent, messages you’ve received, Guardian activity, and AI Twin invites – all in one place.

Opening the Bell

  • Web: Click the bell icon in the top-right corner of the dashboard. A dropdown panel slides open showing your recent notifications.
  • Mobile: Tap the bell icon in the header. A notification sheet opens.

Unread notifications are shown with a coloured dot or bold indicator. Tapping a notification marks it as read.

Notification Types

The bell surfaces seven distinct notification types. Here is what each one means:

1. Message Received

Who sees it: You, as a recipient.

A message sent to you has arrived. Tapping this notification opens the message in your inbox.

Includes: sender name, message subject, and the time of delivery.

2. Message Delivered (Sender Confirmation)

Who sees it: You, as the sender.

Your message was successfully delivered to all recipients. This notification confirms that delivery completed.

Includes: message subject, number of recipients, recipient names, and whether a Guardian triggered the delivery.

3. Schedule Set / Updated

Who sees it: You (the message owner), and all assigned Guardians.

A delivery date has been set or changed on one of your messages. This fires both when you set the date yourself and when a Guardian updates it on your behalf.

Includes: message subject, new scheduled delivery date, and a cancellation cutoff reminder (delivery can be cancelled up to 4 hours before the scheduled time).

4. Guardian Assigned

Who sees it: The Guardian being assigned.

You have been assigned as a Guardian to someone’s message. Tapping this notification takes you to your Guarded Messages list where you can see the message details and your permissions.

Includes: the message owner’s name and the message subject.

5. Delivery Triggered by a Guardian

Who sees it: You (the message owner), and all other Guardians on the same message.

One of your Guardians has manually triggered the delivery of a Timeless message. The message is now delivered.

Includes: the Guardian’s name, message subject, and delivery timestamp.

6. Guardian Invitation

Who sees it: A contact you have invited to become a Guardian.

You have received a Guardian invitation from another MessageFuture user. The notification presents two actions: Accept or Decline.

  • Accept – You become an active Guardian and gain access to the messages assigned to you
  • Decline – The invitation is dismissed; no further action

Includes: the inviting user’s name and a brief explanation of the Guardian role.

7. Twin Invite Received

Who sees it: A contact you have shared an AI Twin with.

Someone has shared an AI Twin with you. The notification presents two actions: Accept or Decline.

  • Accept – The Twin appears in your Twins list and you can start chatting
  • Decline – The invite is dismissed; you will not have access to the Twin

Includes: the Twin’s name, the owner’s name, and the access type granted (Recipient or Guardian).

Marking Notifications as Read

Tapping any notification marks it as read. You can also open the bell panel and mark all notifications as read at once using the Mark All as Read option at the top of the panel.

Notification History

The bell panel shows your most recent notifications. Older notifications (beyond the display limit) may no longer appear in the panel but can still be accessed if you navigate directly to the relevant section (e.g. Messages, Twins, Guarded Messages).
