Writing Your Message
The MessageFuture composer has two core text fields: a Title and a Message body. Both support AI-assisted suggestions to help you find the right words.
The Title Field
The Title (also called the Subject) is a short label for your message. It appears:
- In your Messages dashboard so you can identify the message at a glance
- In the subject line of the delivery email your recipient receives
- In Guardian notification emails when a schedule or change is confirmed
The title is required before you can proceed to the confirm screen. If you try to advance without one, the composer will prompt you to add a title.
The Message Body
The large text area below the title is your message body – what your recipient will actually read when the message is delivered. There is no enforced character limit on the body.
Write freely. This is your space.
AI Suggestions
Both the title and the body have an AI suggestion button (✦ sparkle icon) next to them. Tapping it sends your current draft to the MessageFuture AI engine, which generates a contextually relevant suggestion based on:
- What you’ve already written (existing title or body text)
- The name and relationship of your first selected recipient

How to use a suggestion
- Tap the ✦ icon next to the Title or Message body field
- A suggestion appears in a highlighted banner below the field
- Review it – you’ll see the suggested text in italics
- Tap Use This to replace your current text with the suggestion
- Or tap Dismiss to discard it and keep your original text
Note: AI suggestions consume your message credits. See How Credits Work for details.
Tips for better suggestions
- The more context you provide in the body, the more personalised the title suggestion will be
- Adding a recipient with a clear relationship (e.g. “Parent”, “Spouse”) helps the AI tailor the tone
- You can use a suggestion as a starting point and then edit it freely – it’s your message
Saving as You Write
You don’t need to do anything special to save your progress. The composer auto-saves your title and body to a draft every 3 seconds as you type. See The Draft-First Editor for full details on how auto-save works.
