What Are Alive Check-ins?

The Alive Check-ins interface is visible in the MessageFuture dashboard, but the live scheduling and automated triggering logic is not yet fully active. The information below describes the intended behaviour of this feature when it launches. No check-in schedules are currently being enforced or tracked automatically.
Overview
Alive Check-ins are a periodic verification system designed to confirm that you – the message owner – are reachable and able to manage your account. They add an additional layer of safety to your Timeless messages: if you stop responding to check-ins, the system can alert your Guardians so they know it may be time to act.
Think of Alive Check-ins as a quiet, background signal that says: “I’m here, and my messages should stay on hold – for now.”
How It Will Work
When the feature launches, the Alive Check-ins system will work as follows:
- You set a check-in schedule – a recurring interval (e.g. monthly, quarterly) at which you are expected to confirm your status
- MessageFuture sends a check-in prompt – an email or in-app notification reminding you to confirm
- You confirm – by clicking a link or tapping a button in the app, you mark the check-in as complete
- If you miss a check-in – your assigned Guardians are notified that a check-in was missed, so they can assess whether to take action on your Timeless messages
Check-in Statuses
The check-in dashboard will display a status card for each contact or interval in your schedule:

| Active | Check-in completed on time – all is well |
| Pending | A check-in is due soon |
| Missed | A check-in window has passed without a response |
What Happens When a Check-in Is Missed
A missed check-in does not automatically trigger delivery of your Timeless messages. It is a signal – not an automated action.
When a check-in is missed:
- Your assigned Guardians receive a notification informing them of the missed check-in
- Guardians can then decide, based on their own knowledge and judgment, whether to manually trigger delivery of any Timeless messages assigned to them
- You can still log in at any time to complete a late check-in and reset the schedule
This design keeps humans in the loop for the most significant decisions.
Viewing the Alive Check-ins Page
The Alive Check-ins page is accessible now, though it shows illustrative data while the scheduling engine is being finalised:
- Web: Go to Dashboard → Alive Check-ins from the left sidebar
- Mobile: This feature will be accessible from the main navigation once it launches
What to Do Now
While Alive Check-ins are not yet scheduling live alerts, you can still prepare:
- Set up your Guardians – make sure your most trusted contacts are promoted to Guardian and assigned to your important Timeless messages. See Promoting a Contact to Guardian →.
- Review your Timeless messages – confirm that each one has at least one Guardian assigned with Trigger Delivery permission. See Timeless Messages →.
When Alive Check-ins launch, you will be notified in-app and by email with instructions on how to set your first schedule.
