Glossary

A reference guide to the key terms used throughout MessageFuture documentation.

A

Account Deletion
The process of permanently removing your MessageFuture account and all associated data. Deletion is scheduled with a 30-day grace period during which it can be cancelled. See Account Deletion →.

AI Suggestion
An AI-generated recommendation for a message title or body, offered inline within the composer. Produced by the MessageFuture AI engine based on existing draft content and recipient context.

AI Twin
A personalised AI representation of a person, built from a guided questionnaire covering their personality, values, phrases, and communication style. Twins can hold open-ended conversations with people they have been shared with. See What is an AI Twin? →.

Alive Check-in
A periodic confirmation that a message owner is reachable. If a check-in is missed, assigned Guardians are alerted. Currently a preview feature – live scheduling is not yet active. See What Are Alive Check-ins? →.

B

Base Prompt
The internal AI instruction set generated from a Twin’s questionnaire answers. It shapes every response the Twin gives. The base prompt is private – people chatting with the Twin cannot see it.

Block
An action that prevents future messages from a specific sender from appearing in your inbox. The sender is not notified. See Blocking a Sender →.

C

Contact
A person in your MessageFuture address book. Contacts can be added as message recipients, promoted to Guardians, or granted access to AI Twins.

Credit
The in-app currency used to finalise messages. Credits are deducted when a message is scheduled or saved as Timeless. Drafts are always free. See How Credits Work →.

Credit Pack
A one-time purchase of a fixed number of credits. Available in three sizes: Starter (50), Popular (200), and Power (1,000). See Buying Credit Packs →.

D

Draft
A message that has been saved but not yet finalised. Drafts are free, can be edited at any time, and will not be delivered until confirmed. Status: draft.

Delivery Log
An internal record of every delivery attempt made for a message, including timestamps, recipient addresses, and any errors encountered.

F

Future Me
A recipient option in the message composer that addresses a message to yourself. The message is delivered to your own inbox on the scheduled date.

G

Guardian
A trusted contact you appoint to help manage one or more of your messages. Guardians can trigger Timeless deliveries, update delivery dates, edit recipients, and/or view message content – depending on the permissions you grant them. See Promoting a Contact to Guardian →.

Guardian Assignment
The link between a specific Guardian and a specific message, including the permissions granted for that message.

Guarded Message
A message that has one or more Guardians assigned to it. Guardians see their guarded messages in the Guarded Messages section of their dashboard.

I

IAP (In-App Purchase)
A purchase made through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store from within the MessageFuture mobile app. Used for credit packs and subscriptions on mobile. See In-App Purchases – Mobile →.

M

Message
The core unit of content on MessageFuture. A message has a title, an optional body, optional media attachments, one or more recipients, and a delivery mode (Scheduled or Timeless). Messages progress through statuses: draftscheduled or timelessdelivered or failed.

Media Attachment
An image, audio recording, or video recording attached to a message. Media is uploaded directly to encrypted cloud storage and delivered to recipients alongside the written message.

N

Notification Bell
The in-app alert hub (🔔) in the dashboard header. Surfaces seven event types: message received, message delivered, schedule set/updated, Guardian assigned, delivery triggered, Guardian invitation, and Twin invite. See The Notification Bell →.

P

Plan
A subscription tier that determines your monthly credit allocation and scheduling horizon. Plans: Free, Standard, Pro, and Pro Max. See Subscription Plans →.

Primary Guardian
An optional label you can apply to one Guardian to mark them as your main point of contact. Does not grant additional permissions beyond the label.

Profile
Your MessageFuture account record, storing your name, email, phone, timezone, plan, and credit balance.

Pro-Rata Credit Adjustment
When editing a finalised message, only the credit difference between the new cost and the previously charged amount is deducted. If the new cost is equal to or lower than the original, no additional credits are charged.

Q

Quiet Hours
A configurable time window during which push notifications are suppressed on your mobile device. Does not affect transactional emails or the in-app notification bell. See Notification Preferences →.

R

Recipient
A person who will receive a message when it is delivered. Recipients are selected from your Contacts list or via the Future Me option. Each additional recipient beyond the first costs 1 credit.

Revoke
To remove a Guardian’s access to your messages. Can be done globally (from the Contacts page) or per-message (from the message’s Guardian panel). See Revoking a Guardian →.

S

Scheduled Message
A finalised message with a specific future delivery date. It is delivered automatically at the set date and time. Status: scheduled.

Scheduling Horizon
The maximum date into the future that a message can be scheduled. Free plan: 5 years. Paid plans: 30 years.

Soft-Delete
Moving a message to the Trash rather than erasing it immediately. Messages in Trash are permanently deleted after 30 days. See The Trash and Soft-Delete →.

T

Timeless Message
A finalised message with no fixed delivery date. Delivery is triggered manually by an assigned Guardian. Stored for up to 20 years. Status: timeless.

Timeless Multiplier
A ×3 factor applied to the credit cost of any Timeless message, reflecting its long-term storage commitment.

Trash
A holding area for soft-deleted messages. Messages remain in Trash for 30 days before permanent deletion.

Trusted Contact
Any contact in your address book who has been promoted to Guardian status and accepted the invitation.

Twin
Short for AI Twin. See AI Twin above.

V

Vault
An informal term sometimes used to describe a collection of Timeless messages held safely for future delivery.
