Adding and Managing Contacts
Your Contacts list is your MessageFuture address book – the pool of people you can send messages to, assign as Guardians, or share AI Twins with. Keeping it accurate ensures your messages reach the right people.

Adding a New Contact
From the Contacts page
- Go to Dashboard → Contacts (web) or the Contacts tab (mobile)
- Click or tap Add Contact (+ button)
- Fill in the contact details (see field reference below)
- Tap Save
Directly from the Message Composer
You can add a contact without leaving the composer. In the recipient picker, scroll to the bottom of the dropdown and tap Create New Contact. The new contact is saved to your address book and immediately added as a recipient in the same step.
Contact Fields
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Full Name | ✅ Yes | How this person appears in your message recipient list and Guardian notifications |
| Email Address | ❌ No | Required for date-scheduled delivery; optional for Timeless messages |
| Phone Number | ❌ No | Stored for your reference; not used for delivery |
| Relationship | ❌ No | e.g. Spouse, Parent, Sibling, Friend, Colleague – helps you stay organised |
| Notes | ❌ No | Private notes visible only to you |
The Email Address Requirement
A contact must have an email address to receive a date-scheduled message. If you attempt to select an email-less contact for a scheduled message, the composer will:
- Display an amber warning banner: “This recipient has no email address – switching to Timeless delivery”
- Automatically switch the delivery mode from Scheduled → Timeless
This is by design: scheduled delivery is delivered by email. If you’d like to send a scheduled message to a contact, simply edit their record and add their email address first.
Editing a Contact
- Go to Dashboard → Contacts
- Click or tap the contact’s name or the Edit (pencil) icon
- Update any fields
- Tap Save Changes
Changes apply immediately across all messages where this contact is a recipient – the updated name and email will be used at delivery time.
Deleting a Contact
- Open the contact’s detail view
- Tap Delete Contact
- Confirm the action
Important: Deleting a contact does not cancel or modify any messages they are already assigned to as a recipient. Their name will appear as “Unknown” on those messages’ recipient lists after deletion. If you want to remove them from a specific message, edit that message first.
Guardian Status Badge
In your contact list, any contact who has been promoted to Guardian displays a Guardian badge next to their name. Contacts with no email address display an amber No Email badge as a reminder.
