Blocking a User
If someone sends you a message through MessageFuture that you don’t want to receive, you can block them. Blocking prevents any future messages from that sender from appearing in your inbox.
How to Block a Sender
You block a sender directly from a message they have sent you:
- Open the received message in your Inbox (web dashboard or mobile app)
- In the message detail view, tap the Block Sender option – on web this appears in the action menu (⋮) at the top-right; on mobile it is in the message options sheet
- A confirmation prompt explains what blocking will do
- Confirm by tapping Block
The sender is immediately added to your block list.
What Blocking Does
| Effect | Details |
|---|---|
| Future messages | Any new messages sent by this person to you will be silently suppressed – they will not appear in your inbox |
| Existing messages | Messages already in your inbox from this sender are not removed |
| The sender is not notified | The person you block does not receive any notification that they have been blocked |
| Guardian access | If the blocked user was also a Guardian on any of your messages, blocking them does not automatically revoke their Guardian status. Revoke their Guardian role separately if needed. |
Viewing Your Block List
To see everyone you have blocked:
- Web: Go to Settings → Security & Privacy → Blocked Users
- Mobile: Go to Settings → Blocked Users
Each entry shows the sender’s name, their email address (if known), and the date you blocked them.
Unblocking a User
To unblock someone:
- Go to your Block List (see above)
- Find the person you want to unblock
- Tap Unblock
- Confirm the action
After unblocking, messages from that sender can appear in your inbox again. Any messages that were suppressed while they were blocked are not retroactively delivered.
