Choosing Your Recipients

The To: field at the top of the composer is where you choose who will receive your message when it is delivered. MessageFuture supports multiple recipients per message, and you can mix contacts from your address book with a special self-addressed option.

Selecting Recipients from Your Contacts

Click or tap the To: field to open the recipient picker. A dropdown lists all contacts in your address book. Tap any contact to select them – a checkmark appears next to their name, and their name appears as a pill in the To: field.

To remove a recipient, tap the × next to their name in the To: field, or tap their name again in the dropdown to deselect them.

Searching on Mobile

On the mobile app, a search bar at the top of the picker lets you filter your contact list by name or email address as you type.

The “Future Me” Option

At the top of the recipient picker, above your contact list, is a special option: Future Me. Selecting this addresses the message to yourself.

This is useful for:
– Time-capsule letters to your future self
– Goal-setting messages to read on a milestone date
– Personal reflections you want to revisit years from now

When Future Me is selected, no other recipients can be added to the same message. The message will be delivered to your own email address and in-app inbox.

Adding a New Contact Directly from the Composer

If the person you want to message isn’t in your contacts yet, you don’t need to leave the composer. At the bottom of the recipient dropdown, tap Create New Contact. A modal opens where you can enter:

  • Full name (required)
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Relationship

Once saved, the new contact is immediately added to your address book and automatically selected as a recipient.

The Email Requirement

MessageFuture delivers scheduled messages by email. This means a recipient needs an email address on their contact record to receive a date-scheduled message.

If you select a recipient who has no email address saved, the composer detects this automatically and:

  1. Switches the delivery mode from Scheduled → Timeless automatically
  2. Shows an amber information banner explaining why

A Timeless message does not rely on email for triggering – it is triggered manually by a Guardian – so it can be addressed to contacts without email addresses.

Tip: If a contact doesn’t have an email address, you can still send them a Scheduled message by adding their email to their contact record first. Go to Dashboard → Contacts, open their profile, and add the email there.

Recipient Limits and Credits

There is no hard cap on the number of recipients per message. However, each additional recipient beyond the first costs 1 credit when the message is finalised.

RecipientsExtra credit cost
1 recipient0 extra
2 recipients1 credit
3 recipients2 credits
5 recipients4 credits

This extra cost applies on top of the base credit cost for your message content. Use Calculate Cost on the confirm screen to see the total before committing.
