Assigning Guardians to Scheduled Messages

Guardians are not just for Timeless messages. You can also assign one or more Guardians to a date-scheduled message. This is useful when you want a trusted person to be kept informed, have the ability to make adjustments on your behalf, or simply act as a safety net if your circumstances change before the delivery date.

Why Assign a Guardian to a Scheduled Message?

When a Guardian is assigned to a scheduled message, they can:

  • Update the delivery date – reschedule the message if the original date is no longer appropriate
  • Edit the recipients – add or remove who receives the message
  • View the message content – read the body of the message (only if you explicitly grant this)

They are also notified when you set or change the delivery date, so they are never out of the loop.

How to Assign a Guardian

In the composer, scroll down to the Guardians section – it is visible regardless of whether your delivery mode is Scheduled or Timeless.

  1. Tap Assign Guardians
  2. Select one or more Guardians from your Trusted Contacts list
  3. Set the permissions for each Guardian (see table below)
  4. Optionally add a private note for each Guardian

Guardian Permissions for Scheduled Messages

PermissionRecommended use
Can edit recipientsAllow the Guardian to update who receives the message if your contact list changes
Can update delivery dateAllow the Guardian to reschedule if your plans change
Can view message contentAllow the Guardian to read what you’ve written – off by default

Note: The “Trigger delivery” permission applies only to Timeless messages. For scheduled messages, delivery is automatic on the set date – there is nothing for a Guardian to trigger manually.

Guardian Notifications for Scheduled Messages

When you finalise or update a scheduled message that has Guardians assigned:

  • Each Guardian receives an email notification informing them that a delivery date has been set or changed
  • Each Guardian also receives an in-app bell notification
  • The notification includes the message subject and the scheduled delivery date

If one Guardian takes an action (e.g. updates the delivery date), all other Guardians on the same message are notified of that action automatically.
